If You Had A Dog That Died From Provo Is Your New Dog Safe?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Firstly, you probably mean Parvo. And it depends. Does your new dog have a the vaccine for Parvo? And did you get the new dog while the old dog was sick?

Make sure the new dog is vaccinated, and just in case, go to the vets for some tests. It's better to be safe than sorry. Parvo is highly contagious, and can remain in the ground through fecal matter for up to 5 months. If your dog shows signs of diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite, then it probably does have the disease.

While there is no cure for Parvo, it can be treated with IV and antibiotics. Dogs who had Parvo once can get it again.
