Xerostomia can be treated but treatment depends entirely upon what the cause of the problem is. There are so many different causes such as smoking or a blockage and treatment can only be sought out after the cause has been determined. For example, if your Xerostomia is caused by smoking, simply cutting down may well be the answer. However, if your condition is caused by a blockage of some sorts, the blockage will have to be looked at and the doctor will have to decide what the next course of action should be.
Often medication is to blame and if that is the case the medication can usually be changed until you find one that suits you better. If your Xerostomia is caused by diabetes on the other hand, the problem will not go away until the diabetes is controlled so you will be controlling the cause in order to prevent the condition.
