Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dragonfly is an insect (Class: Insecta) of the Order Odonata. It belongs to the suborder Epiprocta and Infraorder Anisoptera.  It has two large eyes and two pairs of wings and long body. The wings are strong and transparent. Dragonflies make use of optical illusion which is also called motion camouflage. It uses this technique to follow other insects and get into their territory. It also uses it a protective mechanism.

The eyes of a dragonfly are placed so close that they touch each other. Some examples or dragonflies that do not possess close-spaced eyes are: Petaluridae (Petaltails) and also Gomphidae (clubtails). The eyes are multifaceted. Each facet is called Ommatidia. Each eye has up to thirty thousand facets. Such eyes are called compound eyes. This is the reason that dragon flies have excellent eyesight. Each eye is thus developed into a light-sensing organ. This organ can be called Ommatidium.
