The answer, as for many puppies, is a lot. They should have a defined basket or box with a little blanket in it, that they identify as their place. All terriers are very lively, and will keep going long after your batteries have worn out. Then they just collapse, and go to sleep immediately. You should never wake them from this essential rest period as they need it to grow, and develop. If there are children in the house they should be taught to respect the dogs rest time too, and not disturb him to play when he is sleeping.

He will develop a nervous or aggressive disposition if he doesn't rest adequately.
He should be given lots of cuddles and contact, but not be in arms constantly. That is why teaching him about his basket or box is a good idea, when he is little, he will establish his own routine quite quickly.

There is no set amount of time for a dog to sleep.
