I relocated to California from Florida seven months ago.MY husband was relocated here by his company and I had to resign my job and I never claimed unemployment because I was under the impression I could not do it. Truth is I desperately need that money becuase I have not been able to find a job here, to make things worse my husbands company just closed and now he is jobless too. Can I claim benefits in CA?

My question is if you do move from one state to another and the maximum benefit of the state where you paid into the unemployment insurance has a higher maximum benefit, when you get to the new state, will you collect at the new state's maximum or the old state's maximum...assuming you qualified at the old state for the maximum?

    This isnt true
the state that you were ORIGINALLY employed is where your benefits come from and continue as long as the criteria for your benefits continues

I WANT TO ADD TO THIS QUESTION: My question is if you do move from one state to another and the maximum benefit of the state where you paid into the unemployment insurance has a higher maximum benefit, when you get to the new state, will you collect at the new state's maximum or the old state's maximum...assuming you qualified at the old state for the maximum? MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE WEEKLY RATE STAYS THE SAME WHEN YOU MOVE, BUT HOW ABOUT THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF WEEKS? DURATION DEPENDS ON THE NUMBER OF EXTENSIONS SO WHAT HAPPENS IF THE STATE YOU MOVE TO HAS FEWER EXTENSIONS, HOW ARE YOU PAID?

It is my understanding that you collect from the  original state and the rate and all benefits and stipulations apply as though you were still in that state
