    Byzantine Art was the predecessor the Christian paintings. It originated from Greece and it describes the artistic creations in the Eastern Roman Empire from the 5th century to 1453.

    Purpose

    The purpose for which the Byzantine figures were created was to elevate the concept of God and Jesus Christ.

    Among the figures created in the Byzantine Art, the most prominent are those of God, Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary and those of martyrs and saints. These were all the figure that were no more physical to the artists and still they were depicted as beautiful to express and convey the beauty of the religion.
