Put them in cold water when the water starts boiling 30 mins then turn off the gas let stand until cool enough to handle.

Start with a 20 minute time table, then depending on how spicy you want them, leave them in to soak after you turn off the power supply. If you have other items in with the crabs, such as potatoes, corn on the cob, boiled eggs, etc. Then you want to make sure you allow enough time for those items to cook or add them before the crabs.
Since my family likes very flavorful, generally I let them cook 30 minutes and soak another 20-30 minutes after I have taken out the extra stuff.
