How Would You Theme A 51st Birthday Party?

The love of my life was diagnosed with cancer a month before his 50th birthday last year. He was so ill, there was no celebrating. He is still taking chemo, and fighting a tough battle. A celebration IS in order this year. I would like to make it a 50th birthday do-over or redo or??? Any suggestions? Would it be better just to forget it and make it his 51st birthday celebration?

First of all, I am so glad to hear that he is fighting and surviving this illness. I wish him a full recovery.

I would make it a 50/51st birthday party. I am sure that everyone close to him is aware of the situation, and of why there was not a 50th party. Put something on the invitation like "Bob is turning 51 on march 24, 2008! We invite you to join us for a two birthday celebration! Bob is doing much better this year so we want to honor his 50th birthday that we were unable to celebrate last year." Assuming you would most likely only be inviting close friends and family, they will understand what you are trying to do. Just a suggestion..

Its up to you whether you want to celebrate the golden ceremony or not. It would suggest you to celebrate 50th birthday and invite your loved ones and his loved ones. You can give a theme to the party and a make a big 51 cake as well.
