Before you actually start writing your book, I would recommend that you look up a few publishing companies and contact them, asking if they accept new manuscript submissions. Some publishers focus on fiction, while others prefer non-fiction, so this is something to consider as well. Once you have found a publisher, send in a proposal explaining what your book is about and why your theme or topic is important. It is crucial that you explain the significance of your proposed book and why you think people would want to buy it upon publication. To put it very frankly, you must ask yourself why people should care about the work and provide a compelling answer to this question.

You must also show in your proposal that you have researched the market and can prove that there is an interest in your proposed topic. Additionally, explain your target age group and which audience would find your work the most appealing.

In a proposal, you will also have to include brief chapter summaries, as well as a few paragraphs about yourself. You mentioned that you are looking for non-internet sources for more information on publishing. I recommend that you find "The librarian's guide to writing for publication," written by Rachel Singer Gordon and published in 2004.

Of course you don't have to use the Internet to write a book. After all, books have been around far longer than the Internet. Consider taking a starter course in writing. Some community centres offer them for not a lot of money. You could also take a class through a university.

As well, there are countless guidebooks to help you get started with writing. There is even computer software that guides you through the process.

Another option is simply to study those books you like. Figure out what makes them exciting and what you like about their structure. You can do this for not a lot of money. Your local library will give you free access to books that have become world classics. What could be a better teacher?

As you learn about writing, you probably first get a grasp on the basics. These vary depending on the type of writing you want to do. Novel writing, for instance, usually uses conventions like plot, conflict and resolution.

As a published author I will tell you the best way to write a book is to write, write write! Pick up a pen or pencil sit down with a pad of paper and begin putting your thoughts on paper. Do not think about sentence structure, correct grammar or spelling. Your goal is to write down your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and opinions about something important to you. Or, you may choose to tell a story, but just write, write and write. When your thoughts are all down on paper then read what you wrote.

Only then do you begin to arrange your sentences into paragraphs, well structured sentences, correct grammar and spelling. Do this is in in Word on your computer. Us the Times Roman #12 font this is the standard font for all manuscripts and articles to be published. Format the page for one inch margins all the way around in your Page Setup menu. Click on
Spellcheck, and the Grammar and Style button in the format menu. Start rewriting from your original draft. As you write, other ideas and thoughts will come fit them in as you rewrite from your original draft.

If, you misspell a word the Spellcheck will put a red line under your word, just click for Change and it will correct your spelling. If, your style or grammar is off a green line will appear under the sentence or phrase, rewrite your phrase or sentence until the green line goes away. You can click for suggestions on the Grammar menu. Do not use the word ,i>that, in your writing, 99 out of 100 times we use this word we do not need it. withiout this word our sentences are much cleaner and read more smoothly without this overworked usually non meaningful word.

After you have written about six pages of material, give yourself a treat and click on the little book shaped button at the top of your Word tool bar. Your manuscript will turn into a book before your eyes. You can click on your enlarge button, if you need to.  Now, click the button again and your manuscript will go back to the Word format. Go back to writing and finish your book as time allows. But, write a little everyday, if you can!

A book can be 50-100 pages and be a great book. books do not have to be long. Say what you want to say and what you need to say and stop. Wordy books do not make good books!  Two or three months from now, you may have a great book!  Let me know how it is going in the near future!  Good luck!

You do what you stated, you plan to write so write, after a routine has been set-up  & you stick to it.  Get a comfortable spot, where distractions will be at a minimum. Make sure you have enough paper, pen or pencil, typewriter or personal computer.  Clear your thinking of everything other than what you are planning to write about, the subject of the work.
List what you think are the absolute necessary parts of your story.
Double check your prepared list for the parts of the story and maybe change the order of the parts.  Concentrate on only the part being written about right in front of you.  As the Roman General made available for studying Latin...When in Gaul, divide and conquer, only a piece at a time. Chew on a french fry one at a time. Doing a jigsaw puzzle, you put in place one section at a time. When you count, you mention only one number at a time.
You are telling a story to entertain or share with other people, Also you may be putting together all the facts about something you know or have researched because you enjoy doing it and would like others to know.
You have to set out how many words, or pages or the time span that you are aiming for and would not quit till you have met that goal. You do this day after day just like work.
Reread the sections over again, maybe several times and always think about using the very fewest words, simplicity, to make the story understandable and clear.
Just like musicians, they have to do to get good...practise, practise and practise.  Hammer it out!
