Is It Ok To Install A Ceramic Tile Floor In A Laundry Room?

Remodeling our laundry room which has a plywood floor from which we removed the vinyl tile. Would like to replace it with ceramic tile but am concerned about the moisture and the weight and vibration of washing machine.

I have one now but I have avoided putting the tile under the washer and dryer.  Their motion/vibration would tend to destroy the mortaring and eventually the tile itself.  You would have to be certain your equipment is perfectly balanced to avoid a problem.  It is also common that you have to move the equipment and that might tend to scratch or disrupt the tiles.

True ceramic tile is a wonderful flooring material. It is just fine for laundry areas as long as there is no linoleum underneath it. Ceramic tile is flood proof meaning if the washer lets loose your floors will not be warped and ruined such as the case with most laminates and wood. Consider it for areas where water is used.
