Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

St. Clears is a small Welsh town in the middle of the rural area of Carmarthenshire and sits at the tidal limit of tributaries of the river Taf. The town is surrounded by lush agricultural hinterland covering over 3000 hectares and the villages and hamlets include Backe, Bancyfelin and Pwll Trap. The 2001 census gives the population as about 2,800 with 69% speaking Welsh which is a high percentage compared to many other towns in South and West Wales.

The town is located 14 kilometres west of Carmarthen and is important to the economic buoyancy of the surrounding district with a vibrant community, well supported by a wide variety of services which include a surgery, chemists, butchers, bakers, restaurants, veterinary practices, hotel/B&B accommodation, primary/junior school, post office and banks.

St. Clears has a recent history of shipbuilding and older relations with events such as the Rebeca Riots and visits by prominent people such as Nelson.
