When Was Roald Dahl Born?

    Roald Dahl was born in Wales on 13 September, 1916. His parents, Harold and Sofie Magdalene Dahl, were Norwegian, which Roald Dahl spoke at home. Dahl attended a series of boarding schools after attending Llandaff Cathedral School. Dahl joined the Royal Air Force in 1939.

    Dahl first began writing in 1942. Dahl is well known for his children's books, such as The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, The Twits, and Fantastic Mr. Fox to name a few.

    Dahl had also produced a number of adult short stories, which were dark and humorous. Some of these stories were publsihed in a book entitled Tales of the Unexpected (first published in 1979).

    Roald Dahl died aged 74 on 23 November 1990 as a result of leukemia. The Roald Dahl Children's Gallery, a museum in Aylesbury, was opened in his honour. The Museum contains characters from Roald Dahl's books and the art from the books, illustrated by Quentin Blake.
