Should I Have Something To Worry About My Tongue Burning?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Exact cause of tongue burning or mouth burning syndrome is not known. But some factors are supposed to be the causative. These are depression, anxiety, type 2 diabetes, nutritional deficiencies (iron, zinc, folate), oral thrush, oral lichen planus, geographic tongue, dry mouth, damage to the nerves responsible for taste, food allergies, gastroesophageal reflux, medicines for high blood pressure like ACE inhibitors, tongue thrusting and teeth grinding, hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, excessive brushing and allergy to sodium lauryl sulfate which is present in some toothpaste.
There is no specific medicine for this problem. Treatment depends upon underlying cause and clinical symptoms. So, it will be good to see a doctor and get prescription according to cause and symptoms.
