Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Satanic Verses is said to be Salman Rushdie's most controversial novel. It is his 4th book and came out in the year 1988. The book has, to a certain extent drawn inspiration from the life of Muhammed. Its main emphasis is the satanic verses that were described by Ibn Ishaq when he had first written the biography of Muhammed. When it first came out it caused a complete furore since most Muslims found the writings quite offensive.  Till date, they vehemently oppose whatever has been written in them. There was grave agitation in the Muslim countries when the book was out. In one of the many acts to violence that the book generated, the translators who read offensive material out loud were also murdered.
