What Are The Main Elements To Be Considered When Designing A Japanese Garden?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Many elements are considered when designing any Japanese style garden. The main considerations consider nature and the way in which it can be used to create the best possible effect. The gardens must appeal to the sense sand to the mind to create the harmony that they require.

The Japanese garden reflects nature in miniature and so there is much attention to detail and inherent simplicity. There is an element of concealment required, for private moments and to create an air of mystery. The gardens are seldom symmetrical, as nature itself is not perfect. The imperfections are celebrated with asymmetrical and often unexpected twists in design.

Symbolism is rooted in the placement of any item, whether it is religious or spiritual. Aesthetics are important and apparent in every part of the design, to keep the garden simple and balanced. An important consideration is the angle in which something should be viewed and the effect of the seasons and time of day.
