There is a time and a place for everything - flirting is no exception. The first rule is to ensure the flirting is taking place in an appropriate setting. Places that would not normally be considered appropriate are during a business meeting or a church service, for instance. Acceptable venues are in a bar or at the supermarket checkout.

Having ascertained the venue is okay, the next thing to remember is that in today's PC world, and that's Politically Correct  world for the avoidance of doubt, flirting could be construed in certain circumstances as a form of sexual harassment. Be sure your flirting is both welcomed and reciprocated.

Developing your ability to read people is essential. If you don't get positive feedback, stop. Don't persevere. If you there's no joky flirting coming back, you've hit stony ground and it's best to move on rather than force the issue. Awkward silences and cold stares are good signs that you are onto a hiding to nothing.

More difficult to judge is the putdown. This could be defensive and an attempt to conceal. Prolonged and vicious putdowns though are typically the signal to back off in the direction of away.

In addition, most marrying type men don't like girls that flirt; whatever type of flirting that is. They think, that girls that flirt even a little bit will always be that: a flirt. They are (men) more intrigued by and captivated with a woman that doesn't do the flirting (although this is already flirting - by ignoring men). Flirting is good if you are already in a relationship with the man - usually this could lead to marriage.
