How Big Is The House Swap Market?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are no official house swap market figures available. However, house swap is an emerging market. Home exchange is another term used. It basically implies two particular homeowners literally living (for a fixed period of time) at each other's homes.

This arrangement is typically used when it comes to low cost vacation accommodation and essentially is a private deal between the two parties. You find house swapping involved several benefits. For one neither household has to shell out for lodging. Another feature is a home is by and large more comfortable as compared to a hotel. Also, plants/pets are often cared for without charge. It's a fun and more importantly affordable way for various families and singles to vacation and save money.

There are plenty of house swap organizations online that assist such arrangements for free or possibly a fee.

People have been taking part in home swaps for at least 50 years but certainly in the last few years the market has grown as more become aware of it, thanks in part to the internet. I have seen estimates (one source was an article in the New York Times a couple of years ago) of around 50,000 exchanges taking place each year (but this can only be a rough estimate).
