You can do leg squats, run or run in place, leg stretches, knee bends, and do a lot of jogging. Any exercise and lower body work out will help. Leg lifts help also, lay on your back and lift legs at a 45 degree angle and hold for a few seconds.

If you want to do well you need to push yourself. If the race is a long one you should train by running-not jogging- very long distances. For example, if it's a mile long race then run 5 miles a day 3 to 4 times a week with the middle of your run at a race speed.
