What Could Upper Throat Clearing Hard Dry Cough Be?

9 years old male cockapoo has an upper throat clearing hard dry cough. This has been going on for about a week and sounds to be getting worse. There are 3 other dogs and NO sign of any cough. Only my 9yr old has it. What can I do?

This has been present for a week and is getting worse--your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian.  Infectious disease is possible but unlikely since the other dogs are fine.  In a middle aged or older dog heart disease is possible.  Other causes can include inflammation of the larynx, foreign body in the nasal passage, or compressive mass.  This dog needs an examination and chest x-rays.
