What Are The Main Towns In Cornwall?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The only city in Cornwall is Truro but many other towns have something to offer.  St Austell although still a town has a bigger population than Truro and grew due to the exporting of china clay in the early 19th century.

Penzance also bigger in population at the 2001 census than Truro offers a temperate climate due to its southerly position and is the last major town before reaching Land's End.

Bodmin, one of the oldest towns in Cornwall was the county town before Truro became the main administrative centre. It was famous for being the keeper of the Crown Jewels during the First World War.

Falmouth, a seaport famous for its harbour and it was from here that ended their famous epic round the world voyages.

Tintagel is worthy of a mention for all the folklore surrounding it being the possible site of King Arthur's Camelot.
