Libraries, in french were called biblioteches, from the greek words meaning collection of books, hence, the name bible, means collection of books written. The greeks collected information for future referal and for people who needed to find something out, mostly to do with medicine, family histories, discoveries, how things work, are built, etc. I guess you could say the earliest library are cave drawings as they are a record of life from that time. I'm glad they were invented. Unfortunately, many books have been lost due to wear and tear, fires, and believe it or not, the promise to have information downloaded on the worldwide net. The net I guess you could say is like the modern day library. So, the same reason the net got started, same reason libraries got started. To look for and add information
