Has Any Country Ever Been Allowed To Keep The World Cup Trophy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In 1970 Brazil won the World Cup for the third time as so were allowed to claim the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently. A new trophy, the World Cup Trophy, was present at the next tournament, four years later in West Germany.
This new World Cup Trophy will not be retired until the name plaque has been filled with the names of the winners, and so is expected to remain in use until 2038.
As well as winning the original trophy three times, Brazil have won the World Cup Trophy twice. Italy have also won the World Cup Trophy twice, the most recent being this year (2006). Argentina have also won the current Trophy twice.
Germany ( formerly West Germany) have won the tournament three times, twice lifting the current Trophy. No one will receive this Trophy outright until 2038.
