How To Cha-cha?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The cha-cha-cha or the cha-cha, as it is popularly being called nowadays, is a Latin American dance form. It was invented by a dance teacher called Pierre Lavelle from Great Britain, who took the dance form mambo (or rumba, it is not clear) and changed the footwork a little and the cha-cha-cha was born.

Cha-cha-cha can be danced to either original Latino music, or to the more current Latin Pop or Rock. The music used for the ballroom form of the cha-cha-cha is lively with a steady rhythm. The Latin form is more sensual in nature, the beat is a little slower, and involves more complicated moves.

The basic moves for beginners are: Closed, Open and In Place. Other moves like the New York and Spot Turns work on an improvisation of the basic moves. To learn cha-cha-cha, it is preferable if one enrols for dance classes under a professional teacher.
