The word 'paco' is generally used as a sort of nickname for the name Francisco, which is a Spanish version of the name 'Francis'. This nickname has originated from Saint Francis of Assissi, who was the father and founder of the Franciscan order. His name was written as Pater Comunitatis by the order, which means 'Father of the Community'. The word paco was at made by taking the initial two letters of each word.

A paco is also a pejorative term used for Latin Americans, chiefly for Mexicans. Paco can also refer to an angel of Enochian. Paco is also the name of a district as well as a volcano in the Philippines.

In the continent of South America, Paco is used to describe cocaine sulphate. It is an inexpensive street drug which can be smoked. It is an extremely addictive drug. Basically, it is a by-product of a chemical reaction used to turn Andean coca leaves into paste and then create cocaine for foreign export.
