After World War II ended in the year 1945; the economy of the United States of America started recovering. There was a drastic decrease in the level of production during the Great Depression, which took place in the United States of America in the year 1929 and carried on into the 1930's. The United States of America became the largest producer of consumer goods before World War II.

Industry in the United States of America had diverted all its resources toward the production of war goods, such as tanks, ammunitions, military supplies, etc. During World War II, the delayed domestic demand and the forced savings began to accumulate and this pushed the output in the United States of America upto levels that were unprecedented.

For about a quarter of a century after World War II, the American had a higher level of output, but their purchasing power was able to match up to the increase in production. The market continued to show an upward trend of growth until the Cold War.
