What Is The Acts Of Peter?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Acts of Peter is one of the earliest of the apocryphal acts of the apostles. It reports a miracle contest between Simon Magus and Simon Peter (the apostle) in Rome.

It is agreed generally by academics that the Acts of Peter is based upon the Acts of John, and both works were said to be written by Leucius Charinus, whom Epiphanius identifies as the companion of John.

The text was originally composed in Greek in the second half of the 2d century, and in it Peter performs a series of miracles such as making dogs talk and resurrecting smoked fish.

The Acts of Peter condemn Simon Magus, who was a senior figure associated with gnosticism, and who concerned the writer greatly.
