Gemini means twins in Latin. The twins or Dioskouroi in Greek mythology were Kastor and Polydeuces. Their counterparts in Roman mythology were Castor and Pollux. They were the twin children of Leda and the siblings of Clytemnestra and the famous Helen of Troy. They were reputed to be accomplished sportsmen. While Castor was an expert horseman, Pollux was a skilled boxer. Castor is worshipped much more than his brother so much so that the pair is even occasionally referred to as Castores.

There is also a constellation of stars named after these Roman twins. In it the stars named Castor and Pollux shine the brightest. In the animation cartoon series Thundarr the Barbarian Gemini was a two headed sorcerer and villain. Gemini is also an astrological sign applied to people born between the twenty first of May and the twentieth of June. There is also a rollercoaster in the amusement park in Cedar Point called Gemini. Project Gemini is the second American manned space flight program. The Gemini Awards are an awards ceremony in Canada. Gemini was also a film in the Indian language of Tamil starring Kiran and Vikram Rathod.
