What Is The Meaning Of Life?

With all the terrible things happening around us like that thousands of people dying from natural disasters How do we know what we are here for?

Why does there have to be a meaning? What's the meaning of anything? Stop looking for a meaning and just live your life. If there really is a meaning to life I think we would have worked it out by now. When I was in my teens I used think that as you die, everything would suddenly come clear and you would have a flash of understanding so that your life wouldn't have been and gone for no reason, but now I'm older and I've seen people die and I've known 2 people who clinically died and came back to life (who didn't experience my hoped-for blinding flash), I have given up worrying about the meaning of life - I don't believe there is a meaning, it just IS.

The reason we need a meaning, is because we have reason. We constantly strive to find solutions to obstacles to living our lives, it is what makes us human. Without purpose, why not just live off of welfare and be nothing and do nothing. You need a reason, otherwise there is no point, or you are just another organism (there to be squashed or eaten) and not a person.

The meaning of life is easy.... Survival. All living things, struggle to survive. When you go beyond that it is very personal. I think that since all life is evolving, that is or should be our primary objective in our lives. To grow, learn, and to be the best that we can be given any limitations we may have and then to pass that on to the next generation, so that they become better than what we were.

I think the meaning of life is like any other animal to live then die. Think about it humans are so obsessed about having as much fun as possible when the reality is we just need to live then die. However having fun is important and since where not stuck with primitive minds i suppose that not being bored is important.

All the terrible things happening around us do not show that we are here for dying and all. When somewhere something bad happens then at the same time at some place else something good happens. Life is balance between both Happiness and Sorrow and without any one of these life would not be life at all. Its on humans to decide how they want to perceive the very meaning of the word life and how they want to look at it. If you are an optimist then you will see the bright side but if by any chance you are a pessimist then you will only see the disasters related to the term life.

There is only one sure answer to this question - which is that anyone who tells you they know the answer is wrong! We don't know, and may never know, if our lives have some meaning which is hidden to us. Religion and philosophy developed the idea of a divine plan - something that orders our lives and, even though we can't see it, will all make sense one day. If you can believe that, then you will probably feel you have the answer to the question - but you cannot know, you can only believe.

        source: flickr.com

Otherwise, it probably makes more sense to talk about the purpose of life
rather than the meaning. Here you can give endless answers, since each life has its own purpose or purposes. Some people - in fact most - have a lifelong commitment to something, be it family, partners/friends, work or a religious or political or charitable or other organisation to which they belong. Others find meaning, dignity, value etc in a whole variety of different ways which may change as they go through life. For instance, for a lot of people, interacting with nature and caring for their surroundings becomes a bigger part of their lives as they get older. Others find themselves going in what you could call a spiritual direction, giving more and more attention to things of the mind rather than the physical world.

There are those who express themselves only or mainly through creating something, or through performance arts such as dancing. Those people would say ‘I live to dance’ (or draw, or whatever) – and that is the meaning of their life. Another might say ‘I live for my children’. Most of us live a life made up of a complex network of duties, needs, pleasures and purposes, which adds up to a meaning.

I think one way to find meaning in your own life is to ask myourself how you would like to be remembered – what mark would you like to leave on the world? The answer to that may tell you what is important to you and thus help you to find your own unique purpose.

This world would be a better place if every person considered  this question every day of their lives.  There is an answer. Some people will find the answer before they die. Some will never find the answer.

There no logical need that provides an answer to every question. We can think of questions that make no sense whatsoever, that will not necessitate an answer. Therefore the possibility that there is no one answer is real. This gives us two alternatives, there are many answers to the question, or there is no answer at all. Taken the first possibility to the extreme, there could be a different answer for each person. The question may not have an answer because it is nonsensical.

The fact that we were born was a tangible result. There is an answer for every result. To state that it is nonsensical to seek or ever find an answer to the question of why we were born is liken to a person burying their head in sand to avoid finding out if they achieved a meaniful result for their life..

Depends how you look at it. Since your asking in the science category, probably the best answer to the meaning of our own INDIVIDUAL lives is to reproduce. Pass on our genes, and ensure the survival of the next generation.

When you talk about the meaning to our collective exsistence it starts to get tricky, and it depends on whether you believe in a god, and which god. If you don't believe in a god, or a creator, and you think we are here due to random chemical reactions, then the best answer is probably there is no meaning to life. If you believe in a religious god, then the answer is what ever your holy book tells you it is. If you believe in a higher being but you don't necessarily believe in it in terms of religion, then you'll have to figure that one out for yourself.

Theres probably no single meaning to life. Humans have created a million meanings of life through our art, music, science, religions etc, etc. If there is one single meaning to life, we obviously aren't meant to know it just yet. Be careful when you ask people the meaning of life, the answer they give will be their meaning, but it might not necessarily be yours.

Only you could know what the meaning of your life would be. The only advice I can give you is to be a good person and do what you need to do to make you live full of joy. For me the meaning of life is to be a good person and take care of my family.  I am currently in school and I found the perfect job for me. No one can tell you how to live your life but you!!!!!!!!

If you mean "meaning" not meaing, then i can answer that.

The meaning of life is to love, give, take, learn, and have a good time. It's like a board game. Take monopoly for example. Everytime you go around "Go", its another year. You might hit luxury tax,(a rough spot in life) a couple times, but it takes a long time before you go bankrupt. (die).

so the overall meaning is to just live it and enjoy it while you can. I hope i helped. :-)

texttext I was put here to have a relationship with my creator. I also feel the need to learn from experience or study.  My 'gift' is that I see the beauty in people, the good, and true, which is part of our whole selves.  I can sincerely point out talents and virtues, in people, that they do not know about or acknowledge. People feel good about themselves when they are around me.

If you think about it as soon as the world realizes we are all the same from one source God and accept that we should treat each other as we would want to be treated according to the laws of the bible.....in other words practice what Jesus taught...then we would have fulfilled his teachings by spreading the word and we would not need to be here anymore then the time on this planet would be over as it is and so would our lives as we know them now on earth..in other words you are suppose to be doing one thing either accepting the lord or not during life on this planet and once you accept then you are to help spread the word...once everyone on this planet has heard the word and make a choice it is suppose to be over...as we understand it ...this is not to say you will not be living your everyday life during this time having life experiences and problems....the old saying is this is just a dressing room for your eternal life...

I COMPLETELY agree with nomad 1!!!!! Without God we have nothing. Everyone wants to be loved and everyone has a void inside of them for something. Some people try to find happiness with drugs or sex or money, but true love and true joy is ONLY found in JESUS CHRIST. He loves you so much and I hope so much that you'll make the right choice and love Him too!

                Great question.
Life is a refining fire for those who are being saved by Christ Jesus. Just as you put gold into a fire to remove impurities, until you can see your reflection in the gold, Christ puts us in this world and after accepting Jesus as Lord and savior, He puts us in the fire or trials and tribulations as well as good and lovely times to mold us and to remove the impurities from our lives until the master is ready to take us home and can see his reflection in us through the blood of Jesus Christ.
The meaning of Life is to discover the Love of God through his son Jesus Christ and to spread the gospel to everyone.
                Hope this helps you.

The 'meaning of life' or the 'purpose of life' is one of the questions that have baffled everybody from philosophers to ordinary people for ages. There is, however, no correct answer to this question. One can look at it in terms of temporary goals that define ones life from time to time; these are things that keep changing so often. They can further be interpreted in terms of ones material goals i.e. achieving wealth or success. This is done in order to ensure a comfortable life for oneself, or then ethical goals which speak of peace, love and compassion or spiritual goals such as enlightenment etc. Assuming that the aim of one's life is Salvation and freedom from re-incarnation, the ancient Hindu scriptures that suggest some of the ways to achieve salvation as being those of knowledge, meditation & spiritual practices, worship, and selfless service. There are yet many others who believe that there is no purpose in life, in which case one can either take life as it comes without much effort or can try and live every single day assuming it were his/her last.

"There is, however, no correct answer to this question," says Girl above. I find that hard to accept since if there is a question, there must be an answer. And to this question, only one answer, yes that's true, there can be just one truth, same as we all have on biological father and one biological mother, we have only one truth. I once heard an author say, "a good author can explain his book in just one sentence."  I have applied that to many other things, to case in point, to being able to explain the meaning of life in just one sentence. The meaning of life is "to have a personal relationship with the living God" my new friends. There is actually a living God, all loving, all-powerful father in Heaven, who just like our parents, wants to have a relationship with us.

i believe that life is about lessons. the reason why things happen to you ("good" or "bad") is because you attract the lessons (people, events etc) to you because of the energy field you have. I'm saying this from personal experience.

I used to be such a dreamer in a negative sense and because of this dreaminess, i got back injuries, got cheated of money and also my trust was robbed by a man. It was such a painful experience but i grew. I do have goals but i no longer dream now. I believe i am the cause of the pain i experienced. So i am trying not to hate the people who betrayed me because i attracted the lessons to myself. The people are just playing it out for me. I know i sound stupid and naive to certain people but i would be a total fool if i let hate fester inside me. It's similar to this: the greatest risk is not risking in life. and p.s., people learn best when they feel pain.

And my purpose in life is probably to learn my lessons and grow and feel proud of my inner beauty. And i think it's quite possible that if someone has learnt all the lesson will not have to go through any pain because they've already learnt their lessons. Thus i think enlightenment should be such a joyful state! That's why i think enlightenment might be the goal of my life too.

No one knows the meaning of Life or if there is one. You can only know the meaning of YOUR life because that's the one you live. Your instinct will tell you when things are right and wrong. Just be happy because in all truth one day you will die and that day could be today. We all share that. So live each day and enjoy. I always say "Don't bother with questions that have no answer." Just enjoy the blue sky, the raindrops, and the love.

The meaning of life... If only we all knew. Life is such a precious thing.. You can love, you can laugh, you can cry, or you can just live. Dont give up. Someday God will show you the meaning of life just like he has shown me... Just keep believing.. I wish i could describe to you the meaning but you have to hear it for yourself...
