What Is An Ice-cream?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Ice-cream is frozen dairy food. It is a smooth, delicious cold food, coming under the category of "desserts," made from a frozen mixture of milk, sugar, butterfat, and flavouring. Marco Polo in his travel journal made the first mention of "fruit ices" or non-dairy frozen deserts prepared in the East. He brought the iced, flavoured food to Italy from where the popular dish spread to France and England.

Italy had a major hand in inventing and glamorizing the practice of adding sweetened essence and flavouring to cream and freezing it before serving. The food was known as iced cream to England. America was the country which invented the modern name for the ice-cream by dropping the "d" from iced cream. The ice-cream in the true sense of the word was served in the year 1774 at a store in Philadelphia, with milk and strawberries. Today the ice-cream is available in as many flavours as one can imagine. The ice-cream of today are innovative in terms of taste as well as look. They are prepared from a mixture of milk products, eggs, fruit, sugar, artificial sweeteners,  corn syrup, nuts, corn etc The ingredients are mixed at a freezing temperature to make a smooth, soft texture.
