How To Deal With Squeaky Oak Stairs?
(95) yr old house with squeaky oak stairs. Driving long screws from below into risers and steps has not helped.
Answers
It is important to take care of the stairs if they are squeaking as it means their is movement of wood in the stair structure. There is a lot that you can do. The best option is to carpet them. This would help you in avoiding any technical repairs. However, since you have mentioned that you have already installed screws on the stairs, i hope you did it correctly as it is the best thing you can do to cure this problem. The accurate way is to identify the squeaky stairs, drill holes above the supporting side members and install a screw or two in them. It is important that you drill the holes in such a way that the tapered wooden plugs can hide them. Hope it works!
