A duvet cover is essentially any sort of covering which you would use on your bed as a cozy blanket. A duvet (also known as doona) refers to a form of bedding, that is, a sort of soft flat bag which is conventionally filled full of down or feathers, and sometimes both. Traditionally duvets originated from rural Europe, made with the down feathers coming from the famous Eider duck, known for its value as a good insulator.
While you will find duets still extensively used in Europe, they are common the world over these days. Northern Europe and Scandinavia are famous for their duvets as the most widely used form of bed covering. In Spain as well as Latin America the term edredón is used to refer to a duvet.
