When Was Halifax Town A.F.C Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Halifax Town Association Football Club was founded in 1911 and became a founder member of the Football League Third Division North in 1921. It remained in that division until 1958. Since this time, the club has struggled to keep in the Football League.

On several occasions, Halifax Town would finish bottom of the Football League Fourth Division during the 1960s and faced being relegated out of the Football League completely. Huddersfield Town FC would often vote against them staying up, which caused a massive local rivalry between the two sides.

Halifax Town were eventually relegated into the Football Conference in 1993 following the departure of striker Steve Norris.
Since this time, the club has bounced back and forth between the Conference and Football League status.

In the 2005/06 season, the club finished in 4th place in the Conference table. Halifax Town won the semi-final play-off against Grays Athletic, but lost the play-off final against Hereford United.
