I bought and installed Windows Vista about 3 months ago, and after using it for only a week, I uninstalled it again. Vista really has to be one of the worst operating systems I have ever used.
There are many issues with Vista. First of all, it requires a lot of RAM and also a very fast CPU to run it. It will eat up a lot of your system resources while trying to perform simple everyday tasks. If you are the sort of person that multi-tasks a lot on your computer, then I recommend you revert back to Windows XP, or try the online free operating system Ubuntu, which the company 'Dell' is now officially releasing with their systems instead of Windows Vista.
Another problem with using Vista this near it's release date is that most issues will take time to get corrected, and though Vista may very well improve with Service Packs that you will be able to download, the chance of them coming out in the near future is minimal. You should wait at least 6 months to a year before using Vista again.
If you also use your computer to play games, especially graphic-intensive 3d video games, then it is much better to remove Vista and re-install the system you were previously using. Vista is an extremely bad choice for those people who like fast reaction times on their computers and who either use a lot of heavy resource-using programs or usually have a lot of programs open at once.
So yes, Windows Vista sucks.

It sounds like there are a lot of compatibility issues, with both hardware and third-party software. You are best advised to check Microsoft's compatibility lists before you start.
I managed to install Vista with no problems, and found that turning off all of the fancy graphics functions helped enormously with speed.
