Why Can't The United States Military Win An Insurgents War In A Shorter Time Than It Took To Win A World War..... Twice?

You cannot arrest territory, without men in the trenches. That's why they call it a BATTLELINE, Our leaders tend to just want to fill a few holes in the ground.

Well because in WW1 and WW2 the allies were up against nations. In Iraq, countries like America and Britain aren't fighting national armies, they are fighting insurgents, you can't just march to a countries capital and say that's the end of the war like when your fighting nations when your really fighting rebels can you? If we were fighting against the Iraqi and Afghan national army it would have been over a long time ago. Instead Britain and America are fighting individual groups who are recruiting new people all the time, and blend into society unnoticed ready to fight again in their own time.

That is exactly the problem. You cannot win a war, unless you arrest ground and hold it. The luftwaffe "the German air forces in WW2" had the same problem, not enough men , material and fuel to go around. Adolf Galland , The General of the German fighter arm, likened it to sleeping in a bed with to small a blanket. you just pull it from one area to another and you can never protect the whole area at one time... That is one main reason they lost the war.6,000,000 Troops in U.S. uniforms would make a huge positive impression upon The Free World's enemies. Many think that bringing back the draft is wrong including many politicians . How can they fund that, when most let a very large part of our tax base go abroad? When the communist decide to arrest territory in 15 or 20 years, Who's gonna manufacture our defence troops boots? CHINA? Get real, You can't win a war , by throwing rocks at hornets nests... It just makes them angry. And a hornet can follow the trajectory of the projectile back to the launcher. Even if it's a firearm. roachs are the same. One cannot irradicate them unless you get rid of all of them. also remember, a very small group of muslims conquered a large portion of Spain and Europe didn't they. Why, Because the christians were unorganized and spread to few. We should have made sure the job was done correctly in the 90's and for sure in 03. I was much more willing to go the first time... Settle it....... WW2 didn't do a good enough job. Truman and marshall were fools.

An insufficient number of troops.  The Army Chief of Staff screamed about the shortage before the war started and he was encouraged to take early retirement.
McCain brought it up frequently in Congress. He was ignored.
And when was any real progress started, after the surge of troops and the same thing will happen in Afghanistan.  Question is-will the surge in Afghanistan force the bad guys to move to Pakistan or even back to Iraq, or who knows where.
This country needs to increase the size of the military but that will take more tax money and nobody is too eager to pay more taxes.
