Bonn is the 19th largest city in Germany and is situated about 20 kilometres south of Cologne near the Rhine river in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1949 to 1990 Bonn had been the capital of West Germany. It has a total population of 312,295 with Cologne being the prime administrative area.

The city is of great historical value and dates back to the Roman era. In the year 1794, the city was seized by French troops and later again by Prussia in 1815. In 1949, Bonn became the capital of West Germany following the World War II. A few sites worth watching in Bonn are the Minster Bonn, Old Cemetery Bonn, Poppelsdorf Palace and the ruins of the Godesburg fortress.
