You can get a forecast on your state pension from the pension service.
It is not too late to make up any necessary National Insurance contributions on your state pension, to make sure you get the full amount at retirement. This is based on how many years of NI contributions you have made.

If you have earned (very roughly) at least £4200 (in today's money) for 39 years and paid NI contributions all the while, then you may already have 'earned' yourself a full state pension. You can get credits towards a full state pension, though, for years you spend looking after very young children, or as a carer.

To get the credits you need to have been in receipt of relevant benefits: Child benefit, and now carer's allowance.

Contact the DWP about claiming Carer's Allowance. Read more.

You must contact the pensions service (845-606-0265) to check how many years of NI contributions you already have, and how best to go about claiming credits for years off work or to add in any more contributions you want to buy.

Also ask at the CAB for further relevant advice and things to know in your situation.
