Answer Question

Cotopaxi is a volcano in Ecuador. It is located about 50 kilometres to the south of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Cotopaxi is the second highest peak in the country. It stands at an elevation of 19, 347 feet or approximately 5, 897 metres. It is located in the Andes mountain ranges in South America. The category of volcanoes under which Cotopaxi falls is strato-volcanoes. It last erupted in the year 1904. The highest peak in Ecuador is the Chimborazo.

Cotopaxi is not the highest active volcano in the world, as is incorrectly claimed sometimes. The Llullaillaco volcano stands at a higher elevation than Cotopaxi and is in an active phase. The Llullaillaco last erupted in the year 1877. It is located at latitude of zero degrees (Ecuador lies on the Equator) and 40 minutes to south and at a longitude of 78 degrees and 26 minutes to the west. The first people to climb Cotopaxi were Wilhelm Reiss and Angel Escobar. They made the first successful ascent to the Cotopaxi summit on November 28, 1872.
