Hide-and-seek is one of the most popular games for children to play, especially when there are a large group of participants.
Traditionally, one child gets chosen to be the "seeker" and the rest of the children are the "hiders". The seeker covers his eyes and usually counts to 50 or 100, whilst everyone else goes off to find somewhere to hide. The object of the game is for the seeker to then go and find all the hiders, wherever they may be. The last person to be found is then the winner!
This game is especially fun when played in a large house with lots of rooms. A variant of the game hide and seek which kids will enjoy playing is that which is called "Sardines". One or two people are chosen to go and hide, whilst everyone else stays together and counts to 50 or 100. The two hiders go off and choose a location to hide together, for example a cupboard under some stairs. Once the rest of the group have finished counting, they must try and find the hiders. Most of them will split up and look in different places, but as soon as they find the hiders, they must join them. As more people discover the hiding group they must join them too, until everyone has found the hiders and no one is remaining. The last person to find the hiders is the loser of the game. The name "sardines" comes from the nature of people all hiding in the same place at once, often squashed together in a small space.
