Where Is Gold Found In Canada?

Gold is found mainly in Ontario and Quebec and British Columbia in Canada. Ontario was the leading producer of gold in 2001 in Canada with a total output of 80.4 tons. Most of the gold in this area is from the two mines in Red Lake and the three mines in the vicinity of Hemlo. Quebec is Canada's second largest producer. In 2001 it produced a total of 34 tons while British Columbia produced 24.4 tons.

After South Africa, USA and Australia, Canada is one of the world's largest producers of Gold. It is also one of the biggest producers of official gold coins. The Royal Canadian mint produces and sells the high quality Canadian maple Leaf series. In 2003 Canada produced nearly 140,529 kilograms of gold from around 330 gold mines, however today most of Canada's reserves have been exhausted and many mines have been shut down.
