What Are The Differences Between RMI And CORBA?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

RMI or Remote Method Invocation enables Java developers to invoke object processes, as well as has them implement on remote JVMs or Java Virtual Machines. In RMI, whole objects can be enable to go through and return as parameters, dissimilar to most remote process called based mechanism which need the parameters to be of the primitive data sort, or structures constituted of the primitive data sorts.

On the other hand, CORBA, or Common Object Request Broker Architecture is a rival distributed technology which provides better portability than RMI. As compared to RMI, it is not bound to one language and can incorporate with legacy structures of the past written in old languages and future ones as well. The basic differences between the two are as follows:

RMI is tied to Java, whereas CORBA is not RMI lets executable codes be deployed to the remote structure, whereas CORBA doesn't. CORBA facilitates remote method invocations, whereas RMI enables whole objects to be passed.
