What Is The Main Religion In Quito?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Nearly the entire country follows the Roman Catholic faith. As much as 95 percent of the people of Ecuador are Roman Catholics. The rest follow other faiths.

Though most of the population is either a mix of native Amerindian or a mix of white and Amerindian, the country remains Christian. Ecuador was once part of the great Inca Empire of the North which fell to Spanish conquistadors in 1533.

The Spanish were supposed to be more aggressive in spreading their faith then their contemporary colonist of that age. Missionaries of the Church accompanied most colonist and they were instrumental in turning the Natives Christian. There was initial resistance to the Spanish but this was soon quelled.

Much of South America, not unlike Quito, follows the Christian faith.
