Endometrium is the inner most layer of the uterus. Its size varies with respect to phase of the menstrual cycle. The endometrium has a 1mm thick layer called basal layer. This basal layer is the sign of fertility. This endometrial lining starts to grow under the influence of estrogen immediately after the periods. After ovulation, this layer is completely transformed in a layer which accept the fertilized egg.
If there is no pregnancy then bleeding starts and all the increase in thickness of this endometrial lining is waisted through periods and it goes back to 1mm.  Then start next cycle.
So, don't go to the thickness of the endometrial lining it is only 1 mm thick but is sign of fertility.
