SAD stands for Seasonal, Affective, Disorder and it generally tends to appear in winter. It is said to be caused by a biochemical imbalance within the body due to the shortened hours of sunlight.
In some cases the disorder is so serious; it stops people from living their lives normally. They may become overtired and want to sleep all the time, they crave sugary and sweet foods, they cannot tolerate stress, and they have a lack of interest towards sex and other activities.
It is thought that the best treatment includes exposing the body to extremely bright light at least thirty minutes a day. This can be done by sitting around two feet away from a light box, making sure that you are wearing a light visor. The best way to get the most out of the treatment is to do normal everyday things whilst sitting there, such as writing, reading or eating. You should start seeing results after around three to four days of light therapy.
