What Happens To Hans Andersen's "Silver Shilling"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A silver shilling is minted and sent out into the world. It passes through many hands, sees different things and is perfectly happy. Then one day the shilling is taken abroad, as the last money of a traveller. It falls out of his pocket and is picked up; but being a different currency from the money of that country, it isn't recognised. People think it must be a false coin, and keep trying to pass it on and be rid of it. The shilling is deeply humiliated, since it has always tried to be honest and give good value. This goes on until someone drills a hole in it and gives it to a child, to hang round her neck as a lucky coin. In its new role, the shilling eventually gets noticed by a native of its own country, who recognises it and takes it home. The shilling lives happily ever after.
