After A Woman's Period Stops, Is That The End Of Menopause Or The Beginning Of Menopause?
I stopped my period at around age 55 but now after a year and a half I'm getting symptoms normally associated with menopause. I thought when the period ended I was through it.

The end of your period, marks the beginning of menopause. Now you get to deal with the symptoms of menopause, that, like you said, you're already experiencing.

As your last period iS the menopause ,then it follows that it is NOT the beginning of it. Menopause is misunderstood. It simply means your final period, MENO PAUSE ==the pausing or stopping of the menses or periods. Simple really. The whole change from disruption of the normal monthly menses and associated problems until the last period (MENOPAUSE) is called the climacteric, ( reaching the climax . The time AFTER MENOPAUSE is termed POST MENOPAUSAL
That is right what my mollie said, I am official pre menopausal, and I suffer with night sweats something fierce. Sorry you are going to be going through this.

I thought I had breezed through menopause with no symptoms after my period stopped but now, a year and a half later, I find myself with the night sweats and the worst symptom I've noticed is that everything makes me irritated or angry. I was never like this before.
Officially you start menopause when you haven't had any cycle for a year minimum. That is what my doctor told me.
