Click on 'Start', then 'Control Panel' then 'Appearance and Themes'. In the new window, click on 'Taskbar and Start Menu'.
A new window will come up, with various options for the taskbar and start menu. The first list of options will be for the taskbar, and will include options such as hiding the taskbar and grouping taskbar buttons together.
To alter the Start Menu, click on 'Start Menu' in the same window. In this window you can alter the appearance of the start menu, such as switching from the current look to the classic Windows look.
You can give your taskbar and start menus other themes by clicking on 'Change the Computer's Theme' in the Appearance and Themes' section in the 'Control Panel'. This will allow you to view different themes from Windows or access more themes via the internet from the Windows website.
