DOS was a pre windows command based operating system. It did not have a graphical user interface like the one that we are accustomed to using. It provided the user with a command based environment for browsing through the various applications and functions of a computer. It is an abbreviation of 'Disk Operating System'. Early versions of windows up to 2000 were built upon a primitive DOS-based environment.
