How Can I Make My Own Natural Furniture Polish?

Answer Question

A very serviceable furniture polish can be made at home with all natural ingredients.  For basic polish, start with 10 ounces of beeswax and 1 pint of solvent, such as turpentine or other white spirit.  Melt the beeswax in a glass bowl set in a pan of hot water on the stove.   Stir the wax as it begins to liquefy.  In another glass bowl set in hot water, heat the solvent to a similar temperature and then slowly add it to the beeswax, stirring constantly.  When combined, pour the mixture into a glass container and allow it to cool before using.

The addition of linseed oil to melted beeswax in place of the solvent is another option for creating a good furniture polish.  Be certain that the linseed oil is heated to roughly the same temperature as the melted wax and add until you achieve the desired consistency.

To create a smoother, less tacky polish, add melted carnuba wax to your mixture.  Carnuba wax is quite firm and will result in a high-gloss shine when used on wood furniture.
