How Did The Fox Trick The Rook In The Fable?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A young rook stole a piece of meat from a house, flew to safety and sat down on a stone to eat it. A fox came out of the bushes; the rook looked scornfully at him, since she was too young to know what a clever animal he was. She only knew that she had managed to get a good supper and he hadn't.

The fox sat gazing at the bird for a while; then he began to praise her beauty in the most poetic manner. He loudly admired her delicate wings, her bright eyes and her shining feathers; she didn't answer. Then the fox said, "Of course, I have heard that, as beautiful as you look, you have a terrible singing voice; I can't believe it. How I would love to sing a duet with you!" At this the rook opened her mouth and began to caw as sweetly as she could; the fox immediately seized the beef and ran away with it.
