If any of your friends are online (you can see them on your control panel) you can click on your friend's avatar and leave a message in their shoutbox. If they get back to you, you will normally be informed by email straight away, even if you aren't looking at your own shoutbox at the time. So it is possible to have a conversation, though there may be a short time lapse between posts. (If you aren't being emailed about what's in your shout box, you should have a look at the settings on your account page or contact the Blurtit team.
